Skinniest Boston Terrier I have seen

Meet Prince. This is my 3 years old Boston Terrier. He has been full of energy and excitement. And why is he sitting this way? Because it is time for a treat!. I have tried many versions of available dog treats in the market but nothing comes close to Good ‘N’ Fun Triple Flavor Wings, Made with Real Meat, Treats for All Dog Sizes. That’s right!. Essentially it is a “Beef Jerky” for dogs – and a very good one! Everybody that has these dogs know that they have very small teeth. It is hard for them to chew on big treats or chews, and here is why

  1. Size of the Jaw: Boston Terriers have relatively small mouths and jaws compared to larger dog breeds. Their jaws are not designed to handle large, heavy bones effectively. Trying to chew on a bone that is too big may cause discomfort and frustration for the dog.
  2. Dental Structure: Small dog breeds like Boston Terriers often have smaller teeth and less powerful jaw muscles than larger breeds. Their teeth may not be well-equipped to handle the force required to break down and chew large bones.
  3. Risk of Injury: Chewing on large bones can pose a risk of dental fractures or other oral injuries, especially for small dogs with delicate teeth. These injuries can lead to pain, infections, and expensive veterinary treatments.
  4. Swallowing Hazard: If a Boston Terrier manages to break off a piece of a large bone, there is a risk of choking or gastrointestinal obstruction if they swallow it. This can be a serious medical emergency and may require immediate veterinary attention.

Instead of giving Boston Terriers large bones to chew on, it’s better to provide them with appropriate-sized chew toys that are specifically designed for their size and chewing abilities. That’s why Good ‘N’ Fun Triple Flavor Wings are the best in my opinion. Give it a try. Boston will want more and if you are lucky, he will be sitting just like mine.

Choosing the Perfect Chews for Your Spirited Boston Terrier

Boston Terriers, with their lively and energetic nature, require engaging activities to keep them happy and healthy. One essential aspect of their well-being is providing suitable chews that cater to their natural chewing instincts. Not only do these chews offer mental and physical stimulation, but they also contribute to their dental health. Let’s dive into the world of chew options that are tailor-made for your Boston Terrier’s delight.

1. Durable Rubber Toys: Ensuring Endless Playtime

Durable rubber chew toys are a staple for every Boston Terrier owner. Designed to withstand the vigorous chewing habits of these lively dogs, these toys offer a satisfying outlet for their gnawing needs. What’s more, many of these toys come with textured surfaces that provide an added dental benefit – they help clean their teeth and massage their gums as they chew. This twofold advantage makes rubber toys a must-have in your Boston Terrier’s toy collection.

2. Nylon Bones: Unbreakable Entertainment

Nylon chew bones are another go-to option for your Boston Terrier’s entertainment. Built to endure their spirited chomping, these bones come in various shapes and sizes to cater to your pup’s individual preferences. The sturdy material ensures longevity, offering your furry friend hours of enjoyable playtime.

3. Interactive Puzzle Toys: Engaging the Mind and Mouth

Intellectual stimulation is vital for Boston Terriers, and interactive puzzle toys provide just that. These toys challenge their cognitive abilities by requiring them to solve puzzles to access treats or rewards. Not only do they keep your pup entertained, but they also redirect their chewing tendencies toward constructive play. This mental workout is a fantastic way to keep boredom at bay.

4. Natural Chews: Flavorful Delights for Furry Friends

Indulge your Boston Terrier’s taste buds with natural chews made from materials like rawhide, beef tendons, or pig ears. These chews not only satisfy their chewing instinct but also offer a textured and flavorful snack. It’s essential to choose chews appropriate for your dog’s size and chewing style, and always keep an eye on them while they enjoy these treats.

5. Dental Chews: Enhancing Oral Health

Promoting oral health is crucial for your Boston Terrier’s overall well-being. Dental chews are specifically designed to aid in plaque and tartar removal, contributing to fresher breath and healthier gums. These chews often feature ridges and textures that work to maintain your pup’s dental hygiene while providing a satisfying chewing experience.

6. Rope Toys: Versatile and Entertaining

Rope toys offer a two-in-one solution – they fulfill both your Boston Terrier’s chewing and tugging instincts. While the soft fibers are gentle on their gums, the texture provides them with an enjoyable chewing experience. Just ensure the rope is made from safe and durable materials to withstand their enthusiastic play.

7. Freezeable Treats: A Soothing Solution

For puppies and dogs experiencing teething discomfort, freezeable treats are a soothing choice. By freezing toys or treats in water or broth, you create an enjoyable and cooling chew that can alleviate any discomfort. Not only does this provide relief, but it also keeps your pup entertained.

8. Supervised Bones: Tread Carefully

While not suitable for every dog, some Boston Terriers enjoy chewing on natural bones such as beef marrow bones or knucklebones. These bones should be given under close supervision to prevent potential splintering or choking hazards. Always prioritize safety and monitor your dog closely when offering these treats.

In the world of chews, the key is to understand your Boston Terrier’s unique preferences and needs. Regularly inspect their chews for signs of wear or damage, and replace them as necessary to ensure their safety. With a well-rounded selection of suitable chews, you can provide your spirited companion with both entertainment and dental benefits. Remember, a happy Boston Terrier is one that’s engaged, stimulated, and rewarded with a satisfying chewing experience. So, dive into the world of chews and watch your furry friend’s tail wag with joy!
